Synopsis. The name "Potong Pasir" or “cut sand” was derived from the sand quarries that were there from 1910 to 1937. It housed villages and farms for Chinese, Malay and Indian families till the 1970s when it was developed into the current housing estate characterised by the slanted roof blocks. We will trace Singapore's living history through the development of a rustic village to the modern-living Potong Pasir town Explore themes of rural-urban transition, evolution of Kallang River and traces the changes at this 3.5 milestone region of Upper Serangoon Road.
